Confidentiality

The Practice is fully computerised and all your medical records are held on the computer. The Practice is both a research and training Practice. We train medical students and provide research information to Keele Universtiy. We also need to share information with the Health Authority, Hospitals and other NHS bodies to provide your care. We feel that this is essential for the care of our patients and to help improve NHS services.

From time to time GPs in this Practice may contact you about being involved in research with Keele University or the Medical Research Council. Whether or not you take part is entirely up to you, and the decision you take will not affect your care in this Practice in any way. If you have any questions or wish to be excluded from this list, please contact Sue Rowe, Office Manager on 01538 399007 or sue.rowe@northstaffs.nhs.uk

Comments/Complaints

At the John Kelso Practice, we are always looking for ways to improve our service. To do this we need to know what you think about the service you receive. We want you to tell us what we do best and where we don't meet our expectations together with any ideas and suggestions you may have. Only by listening to you can we continue to improve the service we offer. Tell us about our service! Getting through on the telephone? Getting an appointment with the person you wish to see? Were our staff helpful and courteous?

If you have a complaint about the services you have received from the Doctors or any of the staff working in this Practice, please let us know. We operate a Practice Complaints Procedure as part of the NHS system for dealing with complaints.

In the first instance contact Sharon Snape, Practice Manager or Liz Graham, Assistant Manager on 01538 399007 who will be able to offer you advice on our complaints procedure.

Choose and Book

Choose and Book is one of the first schemes that allows you to choose from a range of hospitals as well as choose a convenient date and time for your first outpatient appointment to see a specialist.

When you and your GP agree that you need an appointment with a specialist, Choose and Book shows you which hospitals or clinics are available for your treatment. If you know where and when you would like to be seen, you may be able to book your appointment before you leave the Practice. You will be given confirmation of the place, date and time of your appointment. You may want more time to consider your choices, if so you can take an appointment request letter away with you and book your appointment later. For more information, contact: http://chooseandbook.nhs.uk

Practice History

The practice is named after the father (Dr John Watson) and uncle (Dr Kelso Watson) of Dr Stewart Watson, who was one of the three doctors working in the practice in the 1980s. There were two other GPs working in the practice at that time: Dr Alan Thorburn and Dr Cappil Joseph. Dr Mark Porcheret joined the practice in 1984 when Dr Thorburn retired.

The practice moved into the Park Medical Centre in 1986 having previously occupied the old stables of the end house on Bath Street.

Since the move into the Medical Centre the practice has expanded greatly. From three GPs, one nurse and no manager in 1986 the practice now has six GPs, one nurse practitioner, two nurses, one healthcare support worker, one practice manager, two deputy managers, 8 receptionists, 3 administration clerks, and 2 Phlebotomists.
